My dear friends,
Let us keep up our prayers for our dear Msgr. Ferry, IHM's Pastor from 2006-2018. It is my understanding that he is, thankfully, on the mend.
The words from the Letter to the Hebrews that are above and that we will hear proclaimed at Mass this Sunday help us appreciate what and who we are encountering when we come to worship the living God at Mass.
At Mount Sinai in the desert, the Lord made the Israelites His People and manifested the divine presence with such power and might that it literally put the "fear of God" in those who witnessed this Theophany such that they begged Moses to intercede for them to receive and speak God's Word.
In the New and Eternal Covenant through the Blood of Jesus, we literally enter into heaven with the Holy Trinity and the Angels and Saints. What we are unable to see due to the veil that separates us from the spiritual realm, we believe is real from what we hear and are told through God's Scriptural Word and, hopefully, by our own experience over time of God's Presence and the powerful intercession of the saints. May we foster a beautiful and humble awe in our souls each Sunday at Mass.
This Saturday is the Memorial of St. Monica, a powerful model of a mother who prayed 17 years for the conversion of her son, Augustine, who then became an incredible saint and theologian in the Church. May Saint Monica give many parents and grandparents renewed commitment to prayer for the flourishing of Jesus' divine live in their children and grandchildren's souls!
Please begin to register for our Parish's Picnic (Link below) on Sunday, September 18th from 1:00-4:00pm that will be held 4 blocks away at Davis Park! Camille Roche has been hard at work getting permissions from the Village, lining up the caterer, organizing volunteers, etc. so that we may all experience a great afternoon (pray for good weather!). Thank you thus far, Camille!
There will be no charge for this parish event, but we ask that you register so that we can prepare for the proper 'ballpark' number.
You have heard of Pitchers and Catchers reporting to Spring Training as a sign baseball season is soon upon us. Well, our Teachers and Catechists will be coming by this week and next to get rooms ready and to meet in order to be ready for the start of a new school year at our IHM School and for our Religious Education Program. I look forward to seeing you and being with you!
For any who are considering joining the Catholic Church or those Catholics who have not made their First Confession/First Holy Communion and Confirmation, please consider the process called RCIA or OCIA (the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) - Pope Francis changed it from Rite to Order to signify a gathering of those the Lord is calling.
The Info session will be held on Sunday, September 18th from 1:15-2:15pm in the School. Afterwards, you can walk on over to the Parish Picnic!
For Catholics who have been taught the faith, but lack only the Sacrament of Confirmation to complete their Initiation, please see below about a special program for yourselves.
You may recall last year's visit to the parish of a long-time friend, Jenna Cooper, who is a Consecrated Virgin of the Archdiocese of New York working as a Canon (Church) Lawyer in the Diocese of Winona-Rochester (Bishop Barron's new Diocese!). Jenna will be in and out at IHM from August 28th through September 6th. I appreciate Sr. Nancy, Sr. Anna and Sr. Theresa's gracious welcome of Jenna and hospitality in the House of Prayer for this week.
A sincere word of thanks is due to Fr. Raja, a good friend and classmate of Fr. Thumma, who has been assisting us at IHM for the month of August and will be heading to family on the West Coast on August 31st before retuning to his parish in India. It has been a pleasure to be with Fr. Raja - his joy, hard work and generous spirit is such a wonderful witness to me. Thank you!
A blessed Sunday!
