My dear friends,
It is amazing that summertime is half over and one more full month of August remains. For those who are able to get away for a day, weekend or longer, may I encourage you to take the time to get that balance of spirit, soul and body back. We are truly blessed in New York State with so much God-given natural beauty, as well as tremendous art, architecture, faith, culture, personages and history - many things so close by in Westchester! I hope you had a chance to follow some our Holy Father Pope Francis's penitential visit to the Canadian First Nations. It wrapped up in Quebec City - reminding me that my folks visited there for their honeymoon back in 1966! Maybe one of these years I look forward to visiting in their footsteps.
For a number of people, summertime is a chance to catch up on some good reads. Along with good books and worthwhile series, may I suggest setting aside time to be drawn in to the wonderful story of salvation by reading a book or two of our Sacred Scriptures. Our Tuesday evening Bible discussion group is working their way through the Gospel of Luke (on chapter 17 of 24! feel free to join at any time), which the Church is proclaiming most every Sunday until Advent.
If the audio-visual media is preferred, know that our parish pays for subscriptions for all of us to two wonderful platforms accessible through our Flocknote: The Augustine Institute's FORMED as well as Bishop Robert Barron's Word on Fire (congratulations Bishop Barron on being Installed as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota!).
Please welcome a friend and classmate of Father Thumma for the month of August: Father Raja Reddy Pogula will be arriving on Monday, August 1st and stay at IHM for the month. He will assist us while he is here. Welcome to IHM Father Raja!

Friends, today in our Gospel, Jesus tells of a rich man who has been so successful that he doesn’t have enough space to store his harvest. So he tears down his barns and builds bigger ones. But that very night, he dies—and all of it comes to naught. “Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God.”
No matter how good, how beautiful a state of affairs is here below, it is destined to pass into nonbeing. That sunset that I enjoyed last night—that radiantly beautiful display—is now forever gone. It lasted only a while. That beautiful person—attractive, young, full of life, creative, joyful—will eventually age, get sick, break down, and die.
An image that always comes to mind when I think of these things is the gorgeous firework that bursts open like a giant flower and then, in the twinkling of an eye, is gone forever. Everything is haunted by nonbeing. Everything, finally, is a bubble.
But this is not meant to depress us; it is meant to redirect our attention precisely to the things that are “above,” to the eternity of God.

St. Ignatius of Loyola - July 31st
Born in Northern Spain, Ignatius' leg was shattered by a cannonball in 1520. During his recovery, he read stories of the saints and the life of Christ and devoted himself to a life of holiness.
His followers became known as the "Society of Jesus," or "The Jesuits." Ignatius died in 1556 and was declared a saint in 1622. He is the patron of soldiers and educators.

Did you know that IHM Religious Education Program begins in Kindergarten?
Just as your child begins their educational journey in Kindergarten, IHM invites you to begin their journey in the faith at the same time. Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education offers classes to support your home faith learning starting in Kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade.
Our Kindergarten teachers provide a loving and nurturing classroom setting. The Kindergarten curriculum focuses on the basic beliefs of our religion: an introduction to God, the Church, Jesus, and what it means to be a part of God’s family. They will also learn prayers and respect for life and each other.

BEATIFICATION OF POPE JOHN PAUL I
The schedule is set for the Beatification of Pope John I in September. The Diocese of Rome will host a Prayer Vigil the evening before his Beatification and his hometown will host the main Mass of Thanksgiving a week later. Pope Francis is scheduled to beatify the late Pope on September 4, during a Mass in St. Peter’s Square. Beatification is the penultimate step en route to canonization.
Pope John Paul served only 33 days as pontiff: he died in the papal apartments September 28, 1978, three weeks shy of his 66th birthday
