Allow me to thank, for all of their hard work, the Saint Veronica's Guild and they did planning and hosting the reception for our Seminarian Vincent Castaldi last Sunday. It was a wonderful event! Do know that the parishioner who took a bad step is on the mend. Thank you for your care and concern.
I also want to thank the following for all they did to make our Parish Feast in June an amazing first go: Tracy Keelin (our Principal) and her father, Vincent Piscopo, and the Keelin and Piscopo families on Saturday eve, and Theresa and Jeffrey Nicholson and their family and assistants on Sunday morning in the summer's heat! All of you truly made it a wonderful parish community moment - Thank you!

Last Saturday, due to the generous work of so many of you through clothing donations, preparing sandwiches, getting together toiletries and organizing clothing, the Midnight Run of IHM was the only group on the NYC Streets for the evening and did a wonderful job getting needed supplies into the hands of the homeless. Thank you Paul Doyle for coordinating and for all the hands that helped in many and various ways. This is a wonderful apostolate that is always open to welcoming new people, families and groups to help prepare items and to go on Runs.

As you know, Fr. Jeevan is assisting us so that Fr. Thumma and I may get some vacation and retreat this summer. I have been taking things piecemeal. This Sunday (tomorrow) I will be off to family in Michigan for a Baptism and will return Tuesday night. Later on this upcoming week, I am hoping to get away for a full-five day spiritual retreat, hopefully where I most often celebrate Mass on Thursdays in Stamford (CT) at the Sisters of Life Villa Guadalupe.

As I complete my pastoral year at I.H.M. this week, I look back with immense gratitude. I’m thankful to God for all of His blessings this past year. I have met many amazing people in the parish. As I said in my final remarks at all of the Masses on Sunday, July 10th, it’s a bittersweet moment for me to leave. I’ve been here for about eleven months and I’ve felt like I’ve gotten to know so many people. The people at the parish made me feel very welcome and at home. And I certainly will miss everyone. At the same time, I’m excited for what God has in store for me next year as I begin third theology in Washington, D.C. I learned very much from the People of God here at I.H.M. I’m also especially grateful to Msgr. Sweeney, Fr. Thumma, and Fr. Rafferty for their guidance, example, and support throughout this year. Let us pray for one another. Ad Marjoram Dei Gloriam!

Friends, today’s Gospel inspires protests more than almost any other that I’ve preached on. “Hey Bishop, I think Martha gets a bum rap.” And for centuries the story has been read that Martha represents the “active” life and Mary the “contemplative” life. I would like to stress that the active/contemplative reading of the Martha and Mary story is not that helpful. We have to dig a little deeper.
What does he upbraid Martha for? “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.” It is the frantic, divided, unfocused quality of her life that Jesus is drawing attention to. And what is Mary being praised for? Not precisely that she is “contemplative,” but that she has chosen the unum necessarium (the one necessary thing). She sits quietly at the feet of the Lord, not so much eschewing work as gathering herself, learning what she is essentially about.
There is a cacophony of voices calling out to you; there are a thousand influences pulling you this way and that. What’s the one necessary thing? It is to listen to the voice of Jesus as he tells you of his love and as he tells you who you are.

This Saturday, July 16th is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Mary introduced the Scapular to St. Simon Stock and there are many blessings and special protection in wearing a Scapular.
During the apparition, Blessed Virgin Mary handed him a brown Scapular saying “Accept this Scapular. It shall be a sign of salvation, a protection in danger and a pledge of peace. Whosoever dies clothed in this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.”

Present to Jesus' public ministry, death, and resurrection, St. Mary Magdalene is one of the most important figures in the New Testament.
Carrying seven demons inside her before Christ cast them out, Mary devoted her life as a disciple of the Lord. Legend states that she might have made it to France after being exiled for her faith.
She is the patroness of converts, repentant sinners, sexual temptations, pharmacists, tanners, and women.

Just as your child begins their educational journey in Kindergarten, IHM invites you to begin their journey in the faith at the same time. Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education offers classes to support your home faith learning starting in Kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade.
Our Kindergarten teachers provide a loving and nurturing classroom setting. The Kindergarten curriculum focuses on the basic beliefs of our religion: an introduction to God, the Church, Jesus, and what it means to be a part of God’s family. They will also learn prayers and respect for life and each other.
