A blessed Mothers' Day to all of our Mothers! May you be honored well and have a wonderful day with your families.
As we honor our spiritual Mother Mary this month of May, please pray for our First Holy Communion Children this Saturday and next Saturday. May they know and adore Jesus whom they are receiving and may the Blessed Mother always keep them close to her Son.
Parents: please have your children wear their beautiful and handsome outfits to Sunday Masses the next two weeks so that our parish can give proper recognition to those who will be partaking of the Holy Eucharist from now on!
God bless the Lynch Family for their Catholic faith, endurance, suffering, wonderful sense of humor and strength as they buried a mother and brother/uncle this past week - Mrs. Peggy Lynch and Fr. Thomas Lynch, our former beloved Pastor of IHM! For those able to be present at the wake and Masses, thank you. Click here for the recording of his Funeral Mass. When the family has a chance to breathe, I will reach out to them and see about setting up an appropriate Memorial Mass here at IHM with advance notice to all.
As the Church prays for Vocations this Good Shepherd Sunday, let us pray for those in our parish in formation: Brother Finbar Kantor, OP, and Sister Catherine Grace Connelly, OP, as well as Vincent Castaldi and Carlos Germosen.

Congratulations are in order for one of IHM's own - Deanna Danielle Ricciardi, Catechist and Producer/Director of the past years' parish videos for Christmas and Easter! Deanna has just published a wonderful book, Sheli: A Shepherd and His Sheep! This book is so timely for Good Shepheard Sunday and God's great love for us! Thank you for a wonderful gift of your story that makes a wonderful present.
Want your children or grandchildren to know Jesus and practice their faith through the Sacraments? May I give a very strong plug for Camp Veritas (view the excellent trailor with your children - more information is below and on the website)? Camp is a powerful pilgrimage experience for those entering grade 7 all the way up to those in all the years of high school. Allow me to propose this week for our future Confirmation Candidates and those who will be receiving the Sacrament this June. College students, young adults and adults are needed for counselors and for volunteers. It is a week that will renew our view of the Catholic Church and give us an experience of Jesus Our Lord and Savior truly present in the Sacraments. All in a fun packed week in various places.

Happy Mother's Day!
The Most Important Person on earth is a Mother.
She cannot claim the honor of having built
Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not.
She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral ---
A dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body…
The angels have not been blessed with such a grace.
They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to heaven.
Only a human mother can.
Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature;

To know someone in the deepest sense is to see them totally, to love and trust them unconditionally. “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me," Jesus asserts in John's Gospel. God knows us in the deepest sense. He created us! Do we care to know God deeper, to allow ourselves to be seen fully and thus transformed, and then respond to the mission he's calling us to?

IHM’S ANNUAL BABY BOTTLE COLLECTION
FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies. Funds support mobile units, free ultrasounds and testing, pregnancy assistance, residences for Mothers, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support for families. Please pick up an empty baby bottle on Mother’s Day, May 8th and fill it with change, checks, prayers and love! On Fathers' Day you may return the bottle filled with donations for EMC. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care.
HONOR YOUR MOTHER (AND ALL MOTHERS!)
May is a month where we're called to pause and especially say, "Thank you!" for the steadfast, patient, and powerful love of our mothers. Be it with flowers, brunch, or just quality time with her, let's make an extra-special effort to give honor to the woman who brought us into life itself!
May is also a time when we're called to give special honor to Mary, for by her "yes!" she became "the Mother of God," Christ himself. She is also given to us all, by Christ on the Cross to his disciple John, as a symbolic offering of Mary to be the mother of all humanity.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The College Group has an opportunity to volunteer at IHM's May Planting Event on Sunday, May 15th following the 9:00AM Children's Mass. This is a quick but great event where parishioners have the opportunity to come to the Lower Church after Mass to plant some flowers to take home with them.

'Sheli' - A Shepherd and His Sheep
After 20 years of teaching at Immaculate Heart of Mary, religious education program, Deanna Danielle found "the best way to engage my class is through bringing topics to life by taking what is 'old' and making it 'new' and relatable in today's context." Danielle has written a story about a shepherd and his sheep.

You will recall that on Ash Wednesday, the Bishops of the United States called for an emergency collection as a timely way to help the people of Ukraine.
As we often do in situations like this, we instinctively want to be involved in the long-term recovery. The good and generous people from our parishes in the archdiocese donated more than half a million dollars. I just returned from a visit to the border countries of Poland and Slovakia with the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), of which I am chairman, to show our solidarity and concern and to remind them that they are not alone, and they have good friends who will support them.
Every year, the USCCB mandates a collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Even though we made an appeal at the beginning of Lent, your participation in this collection on May 15 will express your care and support for the people throughout this region, especially in times of crisis and disruption. The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.
Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate. Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through the Parish Office.
Registration will close on Monday, May 16th at 5:00PM.
