Our beloved Father Thomas Lynch passed away on April 28th at Mt. Sinai in New York City. While on earth, he loved God and His people. Please pray for Fr. Lynch’s soul and for his friends and family. Let us share the sure and certain hope that he is in a position now to intercede for us all.

Fr. Lynch was the Pastor at IHM from 2018-2020 and was loved by all. Of the many things that endeared him to our community were his daily inspirational, educational, spiritually uplifting, and humorous emails. His messages were always rooted in hope and love, and he helped us stay sane during a difficult health crisis in our country.

May we find comfort in this quote from his May 30, 2020 email:

Spiritual sanity in these difficult days rests in the sense that every moment of every day God does what He did on Good Friday: not intervening to prevent humanity from killing Jesus, but not allowing evil and despair to have the last word. The power of Amazing grace enables us to make the most of even the worst situations, to help each other in every way we can, and to let light and life have the last word. Easter Sunday is God’s response to Good Friday: life out of death

"We Must Obey God"

The first Christians were persecuted from the very beginning.

In our first reading, we hear how Peter and the apostles are brought before the government and religious leaders and told to stop preaching about this "resurrected Jesus." "We must obey God rather than men," they bravely respond and were soon after dismissed, rejoicing in God's goodness and that they were found worthy to suffer for Christ.

"Do you love me?" the resurrected Jesus asks Peter in our Gospel passage. "Feed my sheep"--- this is the great task Jesus entrusts to Peter, the first leader of the Church. Christ calls us all into deeper healing, following him to new life through his Resurrection. And when we've accepted this new life, we must then go out and bestow it on others, even in the face of rejection.

When we decide to live for Christ, we must make a conscious decision to do so, and this means that persecution will come for us, in some way, shape, or form.

BIBLE DISCUSSION GROUP

ON THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

IHM WOMEN'S PRAYER GROUP

There will be weekly prayer gatherings for women each Thursday from 7:00-8:00PM in the Church Library. For more information, please contact the Rectory (914-723-0276 or ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org).

On Tuesday, May 3rd we celebrate both St. Philip and St. James. Both personally walked alongside the Lord two thousand years ago and both were martyred in the 1st century.

Philip, a fisherman from Bethsaida, asked Jesus, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us" (John 14). James "the lesser," traveled all the way to Spain, preaching the Gospel. "The Camino," a pilgrimage trail that traces James' steps and ends at the tomb of the apostle in Santiago de Compostela, is still popular today.

These two saints, and all the saints of the Church, continue to pray for us today and can inspire us to be witnesses of Christ with courage and joy!

Synod Online Listening Session Set for May 4th

During Lent, more than 2,000 people representing the 12 deaneries of the archdiocese gathered in person with fellow parishioners to pray and provide Synodal input at the Synod listening sessions. There was one in-person session per deanery.

Those who were not able to attend the sessions in the respective deaneries have an opportunity to participate in the online listening session Wednesday, May 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. via the Zoom video conferencing platform.

Each person attending the online listening session, offered in English and Spanish, will need to register through a form accessible at https://archny.org/onlinesession/

The listening sessions, which feature discussion and reflection, are an opportunity for Catholics to participate in small groups led by facilitators, who have taken training to lead such discussions. As part of the synodal process, non-Catholics and those on the margins are also invited to pray, listen and dialogue.

Cardinal Dolan, along with diocesan bishops across the universal Church, opened the Archdiocese of New York’s diocesan phase of a synod last fall. Speaking at the opening Mass in October at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the cardinal said Pope Francis “wants us to join him in praying, listening, discerning, examining ourselves personally, and the Church community, to see if we’re truly on the path Jesus has set for His beloved bride, His mystical body, the Church.”

Pope Francis has characterized two interrelated goals of the listening process: “To listen to God, so that with Him we may hear the cry of His people; to listen to His people until we are in harmony with the will to which God calls us.”

The listening sessions are a step in the preparation for the Synod of Bishops in Rome, which is planned for October 2023. The Synod’s theme is “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission.”

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". The president is required by law to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.

The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer” in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.

FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE

Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies. Funds support mobile units, free ultrasounds and testing, pregnancy assistance, residences for Mothers, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support for families. Please pick up an empty baby bottle on Mother’s Day, May 8th and fill it with change, checks, prayers and love! On Fathers' Day you may return the bottle filled with donations for EMC. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care.

The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.

Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate. Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through the Parish Office.
