Happy Easter!
Christ is Risen - He is Risen Indeed!
We celebrate this utterly unthinkable miracle of God's goodness, the bodily Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. One of the powerful symbols and sacramentals of Easter is the newly blessed Holy Water. Besides being the way new Christians are reborn, it reminds all of us of our Baptism, and the fact that we have been personally joined to Christ in His Suffering, Death and Resurrection.
A favorite Scripture passage of mine is from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, chapter 47, verses 1-12, where he is experiencing a vision of the New Israel with the Temple in Jerusalem, and flowing water from its entrance. This stream eventually becomes a river and flows down to the lowest spot on earth - the Dead Sea - where it transforms the area from a place of death to a place of life, teeming with fish and fruit trees growing for healing and nourishment. The reality of the Jerusalem Temple points to Jesus Christ who said: "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up" (John 2:19). The vision of Ezekiel is fulfilled in Jesus' complete gift of Himself on the Cross when His side was pierced with a lance and blood and water flowed out. We see this moment of Good Friday, in particular, as the origin of the Sacramental life of the Church. For the Waters of Baptism transform fallen human nature from the aridness of sin and death to the hopeful place of new life, divine grace and the promise of heavenly life.
For 50 days of this Easter Season, we will have a chance to experience, enter into deeper communion with Jesus and the living waters of His divine life flowing from His side through the Sacraments of the Church.

Although our Liturgies are ongoing, a big thank you for all the hard work thus far of Dr. Laurie Adamo with our IHM choir and Larry Harris, the Saint Veronica's Guild led by Meg Drohan and the team organized by Johanne Grogan, and all who have been Lectoring, Ushering, Altar Serving, and the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion!

Homebound or Elderly Parishioners
To any of our parishioners that are homebound or elderly, please reach out to the Rectory if you are interested in having a priest from the Church visit to hear Confession, receive an Anointing for healing and then to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. 2022 PARISH COUNCIL
NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN
Nominations to replace 4 members of the Parish Council are now underway. Any registered member of the parish, at least 18 years old, is eligible to run for the Council. We are also seeking 2 teen representatives for the Parish Council.
The Parish Council serves as a consultative body of the parish whose responsibility is to advise and assist the pastor in matters relating to the temporal and spiritual wellbeing of the parish. This includes promoting lay participation in the activities of the parish, evaluating the goals and needs of the parish, developing and recommending ways to address those needs, and finally developing and maintaining a two-way communication between the Council and the larger Parish community.
Council members must commit to meeting approximately 10 times during the school year. Meetings typically take place on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:00 PM. Please use the nomination form below for inquiries OR to submit a nomination request.

"Jesus is alive!"
We can become so familiar with the story of Christianity that we lose the shock and awe of this day. Jesus, bodily present, is raised from the dead. Not merely resuscitated, but transformed in a beautifully transfigured body! He has defeated death!
This is the "Good News" that compelled the earliest disciples to get over their fear and go to the ends of the earth, proclaiming "Jesus Christ is Lord!" This is the meaning of the glorious celebration of today, this feast of Easter Sunday, and why the world has never been the same since the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Eggs & the Easter Bunny
Eggs & the Easter Bunny?
What do egg hunts and the Easter bunny have to do with the Christian celebration of Jesus' resurrection from the dead?
Easter Eggs
- Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb to new life
- Decorating eggs for Easter dates back to at least the 13th century and may have been a way some communities broke their Lenten fast at Easter
- "Pysanky" is an Eastern European method that decorates eggs with traditional folk designs using a wax-resist method. There is even a tradition that attributes this practice to beginning with St. Mary Magdalene!
The Easter Bunny
- Rabbits, known to be prolific procreators, are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life. German immigrants to America reportedly brought stories of an egg-laying hare known as “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws”; thus was the Easter bunny was introduced to our culture!
- Some sources claim that the integration of the rabbit was imagery that dates back to the 6th century when monks were sent from Rome to England to preach the Gospel and used pagan imagery (including rabbits) to make sense of the Christian story.
Cathi Douglas from the OC Catholic writes, "Other Easter symbols include Easter lilies, shaped like trumpets symbolizing immortality; butterflies, which undergo a metamorphosis and emerge into a new and beautiful form; the Lamb, a symbol associated with Jesus; and lights and candles, including the Pascal Candle or Easter Candle, lit on Easter Sunday."

New York Catholic Youth Day is an annual event that gathers hundreds of teens for a day filled with inspirational talks, lively music, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass with Cardinal Dolan, service opportunities and time for the teens to get to know each other. This year's New York Catholic Youth Day will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at St. Joseph's Seminary.
Teens must be registered and attending with an adult. There is a 1:8 (Adult:Youth) requirement with a minimum of two adults per group. All adult chaperones (leaders/volunteers) must be over the age of 21 and be Safe Environment compliant.

The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.
Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating.
