The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
My dear friends,
You will notice in church this week that our statues are covered. This ancient practice helps us recognize the Lenten Season we are in, focus on Jesus in Word and Sacrament and deepen our longing for Easter! Crosses will be covered next weekend for Palm Sunday and Holy Week. Since the icon image of St. Joseph from the Knights of Columbus just arrived last week and will be with us only for a month, please allow it to be visible for this weekend's Masses.
After months of collaboration with our Finance Council, Parish Council and the input of the Archdiocese, I am prepared to issue a Financial Report on our Parish - Church, School and Religious Education Program, for the Fiscal Years 2019/20 & 2020/21 together with an ample cover letter that brings the parish up to speed since the last report was made (Fiscal Year 2015, I believe). Such an accounting to you will honor the value of transparency, requested by a number of parishioners since my arrival. It will help us understand the challenges we have experienced over the years, including the pandemic, and give a sense of where we are in order to move forward and grow our Parish, School, Religious Education and so many other facets of the life of the local Church. It will be sent out to you in a separate Flocknote the end of next week and be available in hardcopy for those Palm Sunday Weekend.
Save the Date: Fr. Rafferty will return to celebrate the 10:30am Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday (the week after Easter!) All will have an opportunity to express best wishes and gratitude to Father in the lower church following the Mass.
A number of things to be aware:
- Parish Council Elections are coming up. Please see more information below.
- We will be bringing the Presentation of the Gifts back at Sunday Masses as well as Holy Water in the fonts!
- We will cease praying out loud the Prayer for Spiritual Communion at Masses.
- Livestreaming will continue once a day for daily Mass and at the 5:30pm Vigil Masses and 10:30am Choir Mass on Sundays. Special Liturgies will be livestreamed. We will also take requests for particular Masses to be livestreamed.
- This coming Monday and Tuesday, April 4th & 5th, from 11:00am until 7:00pm, the church will undergo a deep cleaning (last one was December 2020). Due to the noise and work, Adoration will conclude at 11:00 am both days.
- Wednesday, April 6th, the public spaces of the Rectory will undergo a deep cleaning, too. While the OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED, our RECTORY STAFF WILL BE WORKING FROM HOME and able to receive your phone calls and e-mails.
- As you will see below, the local phase of the Synod will be taking place and we will send 5 representatives to the Deanery gathering. I encourage all parishioners who would like to prayerfully reflect on the following questions and to reply directly to the Archdiocese. Please consider passing along the link below to non-practicing and disaffected Catholics for their consideration and input to help our Bishops and the Holy Father.
- Thank you for the $245 in donations to the Easter Baskets that the college students are spearheading! 3 groups of 12 baskets each will be prepared this week by the College group and by two classes of the 3rd graders (Religious Ed and the School).
- Lost and Found of numerous items from the winter is kept in the old Baptistry next to the Christ the King Atlar.
Let's not give up on our Lenten Journey - Jesus certainly does not give up on us!

1. Prayerful Devotions in Lent:

2. Lenten Fast and Abstinence:
- During the Season of Lent, the Church urges all the Faithful to reflect a spirit in penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence
- ABSTINENCE forbids the eating meat or poultry. Those who have reached the age of 14 or older are obliged to abstain on all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday.
- FASTING binds all the faithful from the age of 18 until 59 (inclusive) to limit oneself to one full meal and avoid food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions during the day. GOOD FRIDAY is a day of Fast and Abstinence.
3. Almsgiving: Reach Out In Charity – The third part of the Lenten formula is almsgiving. A gift of oneself in Time, Talent and Treasure.

April 11th of Holy Week will be Reconciliation Monday in New York. Celebrate God’s Mercy. It is a great thing to hear about God’s merciful love. It is even better to experience it – personally. No matter how long it may have been since your last Confession – weeks, years or even decades – there is no time like the start of Holy Week to know the Mercy of God in the Sacrament of Penance. Seize this moment of grace at the start of Holy Week. Bring a friend!

Dear Family of the Archdiocese of New York,
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has presented all Catholics around the world with a wonderful opportunity: to examine how the Church is living up to the ideals established for us by Jesus, and how She can more effectively live out Her mission in the world today.
To accomplish this, the Holy Father has asked dioceses, religious communities, Catholic institutions and groups – really everyone! — to come together for prayer, listening, discussion, and discernment, what Pope Francis terms synodality. After receiving responses from all who participate, the Holy See will convene bishops from around the world who will meet in Rome with the Holy Father to further discern what steps the Church needs to take in order to more fully carry out its sacred mission. The Pope has made it clear that this is not meant to discuss what the Church teaches or believes, as that is unchangeable; it is meant to discuss how the Church teaches its truths, and lives out its beliefs.
Here in the Archdiocese of New York, it is time for us to do our part! We are arranging “listening sessions” in each of the 12 deaneries (geographic areas) of the archdiocese.
The South Westchester Deanery will meet on Tuesday, April 5th.

Here’s what will happen: the listening session will last about three hours, and begin with everyone joining in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, asking the Holy Spirit to guide the discussions. The assembled members of the deanery will then break down into smaller groups for discussion, guided by a facilitator, with everyone given a chance to have their voice heard and noted. The responses from each of the small groups will be collected, then combined and synthesized with others from the deanery, and then with responses from throughout the entire archdiocese, before eventually being shared with the bishops’ conference and then the Vatican. (Don’t worry – no names will be attached to any of this, so you can speak freely!)

NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN
Nominations to replace 4 members of the Parish Council are now underway. Any registered member of the parish, at least 18 years old, is eligible to run for the Council. We are also seeking 2 teen representatives for the Parish Council.
The Parish Council serves as a consultative body of the parish whose responsibility is to advise and assist the pastor in matters relating to the temporal and spiritual wellbeing of the parish. This includes promoting lay participation in the activities of the parish, evaluating the goals and needs of the parish, developing and recommending ways to address those needs, and finally developing and maintaining a two-way communication between the Council and the larger Parish community.
Council members must commit to meeting approximately 10 times during the school year. Meetings typically take place on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:00 PM. Please use the nomination form below for inquiries OR to submit a nomination request.

New York Catholic Youth Day is an annual event that gathers hundreds of teens for a day filled with inspirational talks, lively music, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass with Cardinal Dolan, service opportunities and time for the teens to get to know each other. This year's New York Catholic Youth Day will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at St. Joseph's Seminary.
Teens must be registered and attending with an adult. There is a 1:8 (Adult:Youth) requirement with a minimum of two adults per group. All adult chaperones (leaders/volunteers) must be over the age of 21 and be Safe Environment compliant.

The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.
Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate. Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through the Parish Office.

- Healing Weekend: Beginning Experience of the Hudson Valley is inviting men and women of all ages who have suffered the loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation to a 48 hour in-person retreat held at St. Lawrence Retreat Center in Beacon NY from April 22nd to 24th.
