My dear friends,
What a powerful act of intercessory prayer took place throughout the whole world on Friday! In union with Pope Francis, all the Bishops and the Church, we knocked on Blessed Mary's door for peace in our world, especially in Ukraine, as Russia and Ukraine were consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. Thank you to all in our parish who were present, who joined us on livestream and those who joined in the communion of prayer on their own.
It is time to bring in a full complement of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (often referred to as Eucharistic Ministers or EM's) to assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at Masses and to bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. While the Church prays for all those preparing for the Easter Sacraments of Initiation, I would like to thank our Rite (now Order) of Christian Initiation of Adult team, Ray and Brenda Mechmann with Vincent Castaldi for all they are doing as this important ministry returned after the pandemic. To those men and women who are in the process of this wonderful conversion of grace, know of IHM's prayerful support. And to the generous assistance of Mike Farrell and his years of experience, thank you. Sunday at the 12 noon Mass we will have a Rite of Welcome for Christopher Plummer - Congratulations to you and your family on this important step to the Eucharist and Confirmation!
When the Boy Scouts returned to in person meetings in the lower church last Fall, what I witnessed impressed me - their esprit de corps, the way they set up and depart from an area as if they were never there, the involvement of the parents and former Scout Masters, and the dedication with which they learn our Catholic faith to receive the Ad Altare Dei certification. We celebrate Scout Sunday at the 9:00 AM Mass this weekend and look forward to their Court of Honor and breakfast following in the lower church!
A number of things to be aware:
- look out for Parish Council Election information in the coming weeks.
- Tuesdays we are blessed with both a Gospel Discussion on Luke with Tom and Rosemary Roche (7:30-9pm lower church) and another session of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (First Week) with Vincent Castaldi (8-9pm church library, please RSVP to rectory).
- IHM will receive a Pilgrim Icon of St. Joseph from the Knights of Columbus, blessed by Pope Francis, for a month of prayer in our parish.
- Adoration is still 9:30-1pm Monday through Friday and Monday evenings from 8-9pm. This Thursday, due to a clergy Lenten afternoon of Recollection, Adoration March 31st will conclude at 12 noon.
- Monday of Holy Week (April 11th) will be Reconciliation Monday for the dioceses of New York, Brooklyn and Rockville Centre (Long Island). Confessions will be offered at IHM from 2-4pm and 6-9pm.
- I hope everyone received their Easter schedule and envelopes! There are no return envelopes due to the paper shortage...
- As their Lenten service project, our IHM College group will be making Easter Baskets for children with developmental delays. Each local home has 12 residents. Donations will be happily received at the 2 marked collection boxes at the candle shrines (our usual Social Ministries donation receptacles) until this Wednesday.
To our CYO teams who complete their "regular" season in post pandemic times this weekend - congratulations! Thank you to Greg Doyle for all of his coordination and to our coaches and assistants for their generous dedication. To those teams who will make the playoffs - all the best!

Lent: Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving
to prepare for Easter
1. Prayerful Devotions in Lent:
- Sacrament of Reconciliation: Mondays 8:00-8:45pm, Saturdays after the 8:30am Mass and from 4:00-5:00pm, and by appointment. First Saturdays from 8-8:25am.
- Stations of the Cross: Fridays of Lent at 7:00pm
- Adoration: Monday – Friday 9:30am-1:00pm in the Marian Chapel. Monday evenings from 8:00pm-9:00pm church.
- Holy Mass: Sundays: 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am & 12noon and Saturday Vigil at 5:30pm; Daily Monday-Friday 6:45am and 9:00am, Saturdays and holidays 8:30am.
- Easter Duty: The time for fulfilling Confession & Receiving Holy Communion extends from March 6 - First Sunday of Lent, to June 6 - Pentecost Sunday
2. Lenten Fast and Abstinence:
- During the Season of Lent, the Church urges all the Faithful to reflect a spirit in penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence
- ABSTINENCE forbids the eating meat or poultry. Those who have reached the age of 14 or older are obliged to abstain on all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday.
- FASTING binds all the faithful from the age of 18 until 59 (inclusive) to limit oneself to one full meal and avoid food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions during the day. GOOD FRIDAY is a day of Fast and Abstinence.
- All Fridays of the year are designated as days of penance during which we are encouraged to practice self-denial out of gratitude for the suffering and death Jesus accepted for us.
3. Almsgiving: Reach Out In Charity – The third part of the Lenten formula is almsgiving. It’s about more than throwing a few extra dollars in the collection plate; it’s about reaching out to others and helping them without question as a way of sharing the experience of God’s unconditional love. Some examples to consider may be:

The Passover & the Prodigal
The event of the Passover celebrated the Hebrews' freedom from their slavery in Egypt.
Passover also celebrates freedom from the slavery of sin. For we Christians, this is the call: to live a life "fully alive," free of addiction and self-centered egotism. This is the story of the Prodigal Son---the evocative parable that speaks up and down the generations. It's the story of us all when we selfishly grasp out of concern only for ourselves instead of honoring God, the giver of the gift and life itself.
It's also the story of conversion and the fact that God never gives up on us. He's always scanning the horizon, waiting for us to come home.
Everything is grace and everything is a gift.

SUNDAY, MARCH 27 IS SCOUT SUNDAY
This Sunday is SCOUT SUNDAY - Scout Sunday is traditionally the day to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to scouting. Boy Scout Troop 2, Cub Scout Pack 2, and Venture Crew 2, who are sponsored by Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, are celebrating a special mass today at the 9:00AM Family Mass.

Were banking on you! We’ve partnered with local food banks so that presenting donors through March will potentially save three lives, and will also feed families in need. "Return 180" - New York Catholic Youth Day
New York Catholic Youth Day is an annual event that gathers hundreds of teens for a day filled with inspirational talks, lively music, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass with Cardinal Dolan, service opportunities and time for the teens to get to know each other. This year's New York Catholic Youth Day will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at St. Joseph's Seminary.
Teens must be registered and attending with an adult. There is a 1:8 (Adult:Youth) requirement with a minimum of two adults per group. All adult chaperones (leaders/volunteers) must be over the age of 21 and be Safe Environment compliant.

The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.
Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate. Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through the Parish Office.
Registration will close on Monday, May 16th at 5:00PM.
- Catholic Social Widows and Widowers Group: This group meets monthly (usually on the fourth Monday of the month) at Church of St Pius X, 91 Secor Rd, Scarsdale. Our next meeting date is Monday, March 28th at 7:00PM Mass. We honor our deceased spouses in the main Church, followed by a social meeting with refreshments. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status. We plan activities and have meals at local area restaurants. We welcome all Catholic Widows/Widowers. - St. Joseph’s Seminary: Cathedral Prep High School: Explore the possibility of a calling to the priesthood through Cathedral Prep, a program to introduce high school boys to the priesthood in a positive, no-pressure environment. Spend one weekend every other month at St. Joseph Seminary, hanging out with seminarians and priests, learning to pray more deeply, and most importantly learning to look up and listen for God’s call.
