Ash Wednesday was an overwhelming experience and it was very encouraging to see people in person come to begin the Lenten Pilgrimage together by receiving blessed ashes.
As war continues in Ukraine, this weekend IHM will take up an emergency collection for the people of Ukraine. Baskets will be available at the end of Mass by the doors of the church with an usher.
Thank you Vincent Castaldi for helping us go deeper into the Lord Jesus’ direction for prayer in our inner room of our souls in communion with God the Father. If there is anyone who attended one of Vincent‘s presentations or anyone else who is interested in Ignatian Spirituality, additional sessions will be offered on the Spiritual Exercises. Anyone interested should please contact the Rectory and leave your email for further information.

Lent: Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving
to prepare for Easter
1. Prayerful Devotions in Lent:
- Sacrament of Reconciliation: Mondays 8:00-8:45pm, Saturdays after the 8:30am Mass and from 4:00-5:00pm, and by appointment
- Stations of the Cross: Fridays of Lent at 7:00pm
- Adoration: Monday – Friday 9:30am-1:00pm in the Marian Chapel. Monday evenings from 8:00pm-9:00pm church.
- Holy Mass: Sundays: 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am & 12noon and Saturday Vigil at 5:30pm; Daily Monday-Friday 6:45am and 9:00am, Saturdays and holidays 8:30am.
- Easter Duty: The time for fulfilling Confession & Receiving Holy Communion extends from March 6 - First Sunday of Lent, to June 6 - Pentecost Sunday
2. Lenten Fast and Abstinence:
- During the Season of Lent, the Church urges all the Faithful to reflect a spirit in penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence
- ABSTINENCE forbids the eating meat or poultry. Those who have reached the age of 14 or older are obliged to abstain on all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday.
- FASTING binds all the faithful from the age of 18 until 59 (inclusive) to limit oneself to one full meal and avoid food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions during the day. GOOD FRIDAY is a day of Fast and Abstinence.
- All Fridays of the year are designated as days of penance during which we are encouraged to practice self-denial out of gratitude for the suffering and death Jesus accepted for us.
3. Almsgiving: Reach Out In Charity – The third part of the Lenten formula is almsgiving. It’s about more than throwing a few extra dollars in the collection plate; it’s about reaching out to others and helping them without question as a way of sharing the experience of God’s unconditional love. Some examples to consider may be:
- HOPE COMMUNITY SOUP KITCHEN We cook in our homes and deliver to the Church one to two times a month, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (https://hopecommunityserevices.org/). If cooking is “not your thing” but you would like to help with shopping for other food items, that is also really needed. PRAYERFUL DEVOTIONS IN LENT
Lent is a season in which we pay more attention to our lives of prayer and enter into this season of charity and penance. Use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is important. Deepening our acts of charity for those in need should also be a focus of our attention. And then there is prayer. Our prayer during this season should be of paramount importance.
This is a time to enhance our participation at Sunday Mass, to join in daily mass, to be sure to open and end our day with private prayer. But here at IHM we also have the blessing of Eucharistic Adoration and a visit to our adoration chapel during the day is a wonderful way to enrich our lives of prayer. And on Friday evenings at 7:00 pm we gather as a people of faith to join together to walk with the Lord in his passion by praying the Stations of the Cross.

Temptation in the Desert
With Lent officially underway, we kick things off with the account of Jesus' temptation by Satan in the desert.
After 40 days of fasting (symbolic of the Israelites 40 years of desert wandering), Jesus meets the devil who tries to lure him into sin. Tempted by the sensual pleasure ("turn this stone into bread"), fame across all kingdoms ("I will give you power and glory"), and power ("throw yourself down" from the mountain), Jesus rebukes Satan and emerges from the desert victorious, ready to gradually reveal his identity as the Messiah of the World.

Family Life: Prayer Service for
Divorced/Separated Individuals
The Family Life Office is sponsoring a Prayer Service for Divorced and Separated individuals from the archdiocese on Saturday, March 5th from 9:30-11:30AM at St. Joseph's Seminary (201 Seminary Ave., Yonkers). Cardinal Dolan will preside.
Our program begins with morning prayer and a reflection by Cardinal Dolan. His Eminence will share his message of comfort, hope, healing and joy for those present.
Light refreshments will be available before and after the prayer service. Archdiocesan and Family Life staff will be available to answer questions and provide resources about issues and topics such as convalidations and annulments, along with information on the Family Life Office’s programs and ministries.

Special Event: Revolutionary Westchester 250 Presents: Washington, Rochambeau and the Grand Reconnaissance
The Grand Reconnaissance was the joint French American military operation in Westchester County and the Bronx, in July 1781. It is an overlooked moment in the history of the American Revolution, but it was a pivotal moment for the fate of the young United States.

New York Catholic Youth Day is an annual event that gathers hundreds of teens for a day filled with inspirational talks, lively music, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass with Cardinal Dolan, service opportunities and time for the teens to get to know each other. This year's New York Catholic Youth Day will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at St. Joseph's Seminary.
Teens must be registered and attending with an adult. There is a 1:8 (Adult:Youth) requirement with a minimum of two adults per group. All adult chaperones (leaders/volunteers) must be over the age of 21 and be Safe Environment compliant.

The Golden Jubilee Mass is for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during 2022. All those who wish to attend should register through our parish secretary, Joanne Tormey, at 914-723-0276.
Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples only. Up to four additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate. Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through the Parish Office.
