My dear friends,
Please join me in praying for God's blessing upon our Shepherd in New York, His Eminence Cardinal Dolan, as he celebrates his birthday on Sunday! Let's also keep his folks in prayer: the Cardinal's dear Mother back in St. Louis and his Dad in eternal life.
This morning at 8:30am, First Saturday, we began the first monthly Mass offered for the deceased of our parish from the prior month (January 2022). Besides those whose Funerals we have celebrated at the parish, if someone else should be added, please call the rectory by the day beforehand each month.
It was a good Catholic Schools Week, despite the canceled Friday due to the icy forecast. There were Religion and Math Bees. The 5th Graders held sway over the Faculty and Administration (yours truly, too) in "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?", but we prevailed over the 8th grade in the basketball game! The Kindergarten class clearly vies for most school spirit and enthusiasm:)
CYO Basketball begins this weekend in the Archdiocese - Go IHM Crusaders!!
After discussing the status of the Religious Education Program, virtual since coming back from Christmas break, with our office Director and Coordinator, the progress that is being made online by the Catechists and students, the Archdiocesan indication to stay virtual until February 16th, and our hope to return in person and stay in session until the end of the school year, I have confirmed my decision to continue online weekly classes until after the February winter school break. Students will return for Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, and I look forward to a good Lent and Easter Season in person with them!

My Aunt's burial in New Jersey was postponed from last week due to the Nor'easter until today (Saturday). I will try to make it back for the 5:30pm Vigil Mass.
This month we commemorate Black History Month, this week National Marriage Week and we also have the opportunity to cheer on the athletes and Team USA in the Winter Olympics!
The blessing of throats will be given to all this weekend at the end of the General Intercessions. St Blaise - pray for us!

By our baptism, every man and woman is called to be a sharer of God's goodness. Everyone is called, in their own unique way, to evangelize. Maybe this is through listening to our coworkers, being attentive to our neighbors, or simply being present to our families. This is how we become "fishers of men."
This week, be courageous! Ask the Lord, "Send me!" and be ready to be sent out into deep waters with Christ at your side.

Through a series of private revelations, Mary revealed herself as “the Immaculate Conception" and the site today receives many pilgrims who desire to be healed in the waters of Lourdes.
Pope John Paul II made three pilgrimages to Lourdes during his pontificate. He also proclaimed February 11, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, as World Day of the Sick.
A wonderful practice is to offer up a rosary for the people in your life who need healing. Not sure how to pray the Rosary? Here are instructions on how to pray it!

Pray With Us: Public Square Rosary Rally
You are invited to the 2022 PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY on Saturday, February 12th at 12 noon. It will take place in the North Parking Lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale by the Grotto of Our Lady.
This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world. This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. This is the Saturday closest to February 13th, the day the sun danced at Fatima Portugal. Please make an effort to attend. The Rosary Rally Captain is Carol McAvoy. Please bring your lawn chairs and be there on time.
Please note: in the event of inclement weather we will have the Rally inside the Church from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm.

Month of the Hidden Life of Jesus
Dear friends in the Lord:
One of the great works of the Popes throughout history has been to show mercy to the poorest people around the world in recognition of the common humanity shared by people of all ethnicities and religious backgrounds. This is made possible by our participation in the annual Peter's Pence collection.
Catholic tradition calls us to join with the ongoing activities of the Holy Father and contribute to his charitable activities on behalf of those who are most in need. When you answer the call, you build up the Universal Church so that it will continue to minister to all for generations to come.
This gesture has not only a practical value, but also a strong symbolic one, as a sign of communion with the Pope. Your generosity to Peter's Pence facilities much-needed support. Daily do hurting people approach the successor of St. Pete for help.
As I write to you today, I am asking that you prayerfully consider as an act of mercy and charity, a generous donation to this distinctive offering which will be collected next Sunday, February 13. As we anticipate the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter on Tuesday, February 22, let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the most marginalized in our world. National Marriage Week – February 7-14, 2022! This annual observance honors and affirms the vocation of marriage and the positive impact of their dedicated example on our society, families, communities, Church, and nation.
WORLD MARRIAGE DAY
World Marriage Day, Sunday, February 13th honors and affirms the vocation of husbands and wives and the positive impact of their dedicated example on our society, families, communities, Church, and nation. Each year on World Marriage Day, the Archdiocese of New York celebrates the “Longest Married” couples in the Archdiocese.
What is Marriage Week?
Marriage Week - February 7th trough February 14th is an annual celebration of marriage. It is run by Marriage Foundation, which was set up in 2012 by Sir Paul Coleridge, a former judge in the Family Court. Sir Paul established the foundation to tackle the problem of family breakdown by championing stable relationships within marriage.
The fundamental message of Marriage Foundation and Marriage Week is that marriage is worth investing in, because all the research shows that stable families make for happier children and grown-ups, and a happier wider community. Married couples who work at their marriage are more likely to stay together and be that stable family, leading to a happier society. At Marriage Week, we help people do that work.
Each Marriage Week has a theme. The purpose of this theme is to provide a focus for couples to be able to join in. Our aim is for couples to regularly invest in their relationship and to keep caring for it.
UPCOMING EVENTS
PATHWAY TO A BLESSED MARRIAGE
A weekend retreat for married couples based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. This retreat offers you an opportunity to reflect together on God’s plan for your lives, renew your marital love and deepen your spiritual intimacy.
This retreat is offered by the Regnum Christi movement and includes reflections on marriage with opportunities for reconciliation, spiritual dialogue, couples time and adoration. The program is designed to give couples concrete tools to help deepen their understanding of themselves and their relationship, and the opportunity to have conversations that help a marriage flourish.

RETROVAILLE
Our office supports the efforts of Retrouvaille (“rediscovery”). Retrouvaille is a weekend program with follow-ups for couples whose marriage is in serious difficulty. If there is little or no meaningful communication, or if you are considering separation or divorce, we believe Retrouvaille can help.
The program offers the chance to rediscover yourself, your spouse and a loving relationship. It has a proven track record in saving marriages. It is a Catholic-based program open to people of all faiths.

WORLDWIDE MARRAIGE ENCOUNTER
Marriage Encounter is a positive, private experience for married couples who want to revitalize their marriage. The weekend is designed to enrich and deepen the joys a couple share together and is beneficial to couples of all ages and years married.
“BE LIGHT” MARRIAGE RENEWAL DATE NIGHT SERIES
Join other Catholic couples in the Archdiocese of New York, and from around the country for a FREE virtual date night series! This 5-part virtual marriage enrichment and renewal series features five couples who will share very real tips for renewing your marriage during this unique time in our lives. This is our time as married (or engaged) couples to shine and be the light to those in our homes and communities.

Search Seeks Longest-Married
Couple in Archdiocese
The Archdiocesan Family Life Office is seeking entries for its annual longest-Married Couple Search for couples living in the Archdiocese of New York and married sacramentally for 65 years or more.
The Family Life Office conducts the search each year in conjunction with World Marriage Day, which takes place on the second Sunday of February each year, to honor longstanding Catholic couples who exemplify what is good about the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. The winning couple will be determined by how long the couple is married as of World Marriage Day, February 13, 2022.

Enlighten: Faith Education for Today’s Catholic will expand your knowledge of our faith through online courses.

- High School of Religion: Our next meeting of IHM's High School of Religion (HSOR) will be by Zoom. The next will be on Wednesday, February 9 from 7:30-8:15PM. HSOR will meet in person for Ash Wednesday at the 7:30pm Mass in the Church and receive blessed ashes that evening. When we get back to a normal schedule, we normally meet at the Church on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:45PM. HSOR is "A night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, faith on film, basketball & more!

- Spread the word! IHM Class of 1976 Reunion: The Class of 1976 is starting to plan a class reunion for Saturday, April 23, 2022. The tentative agenda is to hold a Mass followed by a dinner/cocktail party with music and lots of reminiscing.
