You have been most patient and understanding as all the initial requests for the 2022 Mass Intentions have been considered and imputed thanks to wonderful help from Rita McCabe, who manages IHM technology. By early next week, all should be receiving e-mail confirmation of your scheduled intention(s) and either a receipt for your offering or a request to make your offering online, by mail or in person. Having completed this transition to an online system for Mass Intentions, "the Book" will be opened up again next Thursday, January 20th at 12:00noon both online and, for those who need to do it in person, in the rectory. Remaining Masses will be filled on a first come, first served basis. More information will follow in Flocknote.
This Sunday we hear from John's Gospel the Wedding Feast of Cana with Jesus' miracle changing water into wine. The Church sees the three Feasts of the Epiphany, the Baptism of Jesus and Cana as forming a united and powerful revelation by Jesus of His divinity. Like Jesus' disciples, may we come to believe more deeply in Who He Truly Is.
Our nation's Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday on Monday is a timely invitation to see how our civil striving for racial justice and equality in this fallen world of ours, is really enveloped in our Christian faith to love our neighbor as ourselves with the help of God's grace by concretely respecting the dignity of all human life and seeing the image of God in all, by seeking the common good for all in our society and by being in true solidarity with all our brothers in sisters in the human family. A blessed MLK Day!
Speaking of those important and good values, let us join in prayer on January 22nd for the Legal Protection of Human Life on the day in 1973 when abortion was legalized everywhere in the USA. May we pray that this grave evil may be purified from our land and that families and society may give good support to mothers in crisis pregnancies.

Know that the annual March for Life in DC is taking place on Friday. My recommendation for those who wish to attend in person is to drive down in a small, trusted group.
Just as it does us well to be reminded of the essential importance of the Lord's Day and our presence at Sunday Mass, it is also important to realize that when inclement weather arrives (snow, ice or frigid conditions), consideration for one's health and safety is important and crucial. In certain emergency situations, one may excuse him/herself from Mass without pain of sin. The obligation to keep the Lord's Day Holy is still to be kept with prayer (perhaps prayerfully reading the Sunday's Readings, watching Mass Livestream, making a Spiritual Act of Communion, praying a Rosary, etc.).
The men's room in the lower Church will be unavailable this weekend due to a significant plumbing issue. Please use the single bathroom upstairs in the hallway leading to the Rectory. Apologies for the inconvenience.

- On Monday, January 17th Mass will be celebrated ONLY at 8:30AM followed by a 9-10am Holy Hour with the Miraculous Medal Novena, Rosary and Confessions. No 6:45AM or 9:00AM Masses are scheduled and No other times of Adoration will be offered for the holiday.
- Usual Adoration will resume on Tuesday, January 18th from 9:30AM to 1:00PM.

DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN - The over 56 million abortions since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard.
The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 373, designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the “Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”: “In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.”

"They Have No Wine"
On this Sunday we celebrate the first miracle of Jesus at the Wedding Feast of Cana.
Remember that Jesus was fully human—he ate, he slept, he wept, he laughed, and he went to weddings. When the bride and the groom run out of wine at Cana, Mary prompts Jesus to act: "They have no wine."

But Jesus knows that with this first miracle his public ministry begins, a ministry that will ultimately lead to the Cross. Mary, aware of her son's mission at hand, detaches herself and says to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
The symbolic nature of the water to wine foreshadows both the blood that Christ will pour out for us from the Cross and the "new wine" of the Eucharist that will nourish his Church and never run dry!

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR AT IHM
Please join us in welcoming the Little Sisters of the Poor to our parish next weekend – January 22/23. At Jeanne Jugan Residence the Little Sisters offer hospitality and care for 100 needy elderly men and women. They depend greatly on charity to carry on their mission to the aged and infirm. Any assistance you can give will help them provide for the needs of the elderly entrusted to their care. You may also donate using WeShare through the Little Sisters Bronx website. Beginning the New Year as a Family
As the new year begins and you start to plan all your resolutions and goals for the year, take some time to also think of a spiritual resolution for your family.
Here are a few ideas to help your family
plan to grow closer to Christ this year.
A Spiritual Resolution
Some of the most common New Year's resolutions are exercising more, eating healthier, reading more books, and saving more money. These are all great goals, but there is an even better goal to strive for - growing closer to God.
If you've never tried it before, in addition to your other resolutions, try making a spiritual resolution this year. Even better, make one for the entire family. Each member of the family can create their own spiritual resolution, and you can have one BIG resolution for the family to do together.
One of the most common reasons people fail at their resolutions is because they don't have someone to help them or to hold them accountable. The great thing about creating a resolution as a family is you can all help each other with your goals. Try something different this year:
Write the name of each family member on a piece of paper and then write your family name. Let each member write one or two spiritual resolutions and then choose one for the entire family. Post it on the fridge, or somewhere visible in your home so you'll be reminded each day. Then, every Sunday night at dinner, take down the list and discuss as a family how your resolutions went.
Here are a few ideas of some great spiritual resolutions you can consider:
- Let the first thing you say each morning be a prayer to God
- Go to Confession every month
- Fast from something you enjoy every Friday
- Donate money to the parish each week
- Read from the Bible every day
- Spend 10 minutes in prayer every single day
- Get to Mass early and sit in prayerful silence
- Keep a prayer journal where you write out your conversations with God
- Invite one friend to Church every month
- Tell God, "I love you" every day
Discuss as a family: How is God calling your family to get closer to Him?

- High School of Religion: Our next meeting of IHM's High School of Religion (HSOR) will be by Zoom on Wednesday, January 19 from 7:30-8:10PM. After things calm down, HSOR normally meets in the Lower Church on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:45PM. We invite all high school students to come and see the HSOR is "A night out in the middle of the week!" Some of our activities are: prayers and pizza, scavenger hunt, annual Christmas Party, faith on film & more! Basketball will now be available in the gym after meeting!
- Forming a new parish young family group: Any father or mother of a young one who would be interested in some weekly prayer and socializing with other parents of young child(ren), please contact the rectory (ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org or 914-723-0281).
- Spread the word! IHM Class of 1976 Reunion: The Class of 1976 is starting to plan a class reunion for Saturday, April 23, 2022. The tentative agenda is to hold a Mass followed by a dinner/cocktail party with music and lots of reminiscing. If you or a loved one graduated IHM in 1976, please email Kathy LiCalzi Catanzariti or Theresa Vaccaro Nicholson through ihmchurch@ihmscarsdale.org.
- The College Evenings: After meeting for a discussion on prayer with some food after the Immaculate Conception evening Mass this past week, our next gathering will take place after students return from finals - date TBD! - The Centering Prayer Group will be suspended for the Month of January. The group normally meets every Wednesday in the Parish Library from 1-2PM. Newcomers are welcome. For more information, contact Elise Kuhn at 914-725-4728.
- Beginning Experience of the Hudson Valley is inviting men and women of all ages who have suffered the loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation to: Coping With Life Alone - a multi-session remote (only) program held on Sundays from 1:00PM-4:30PM beginning January 30th. Registration is required please contact Denise at (845) 325-3147 or Victoria at (860) 993-5469.
- The Saint Pio Foundation, based in Tuckahoe, NY, seeks candidates for the roles of Part-Time Administrative Assistant and Social Media Coordinator. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is required for both positions. Spanish and/or Italian fluency is a plus, but not mandatory. Hourly rate: $20. The part-time assistant will be required to work from the office two days per week (preferably Monday/Thursday).The rest of the week they may work remotely. The social media coordinator is not required to work in the office and can work remotely. Candidates applying for the position of part-time assistant shall reside no more than 10/15 miles range from the office. Please, do not apply if you do not reside within this range.
