My dear friends,
We welcome back Fr. Rayappa Thumma from his well deserved and overdue trip to his family in India! We will give Father a few days to settle in and to clear a Covid test before returning him to the Mass schedule.
IHM has a beautiful tradition of encouraging Vocations to the Religious Life. On Sunday, November 7th at the 12 noon Mass, we will welcome back one of our own, Sr. Paula Holdman, SC, a 1936 graduate of IHM School who will turn 101 years young next month! Currently, I am aware of two of our young parishioners who have entered religious life in recent years. In August I wrote about Bro. John Finbar Mary Kantor, OP, who took First Vows and is in formation at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. I would like to share the joyful news that Sr. Grace Catherine Connelly, OP, just entered the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after graduating from The Catholic University of America. When I was out celebrating my aunt's 90th birthday in August, 10 minutes away from the Community, I was given permission to visit Sister Grace Catherine in the Motherhouse. I also met her Prioress, the Director of Novices and Sister's Postulant Director. It is a beautiful and prayerful place with a spectacular chapel, an amazing gym, outdoor sports fields and areas for meditation. Sr. Grace Catherine is in good hands in Ann Arbor, was very much at peace, happy and at home in her new Community!
Let us pray for them that they may generously respond to the Lord Jesus' Call in their lives. We must pray for their parents and families, whose sacrifice is not insignificant in this gift to the Church. And, we must always pray that the Lord Jesus will raise up more of our own parishioners as consecrated religious and priests!
As you can see from some of the pictures below, our Renew and Rebuild work on the outside of the church and rectory is coming along. The woodwork around stained glass and on the sides of the building has almost been fully restored and repainted, mortar was attended to where there were leaks to the building and the Blessed Mother's statue (of her Immaculate Heart) over the main entrance of the church is in the process of being cleaned. After addressing the two side entrances closest to Post Road, be aware that this coming week from Monday to Friday (October 25-29), the handicapped ramp on the Carman Road side of the church will be repaired and unavailable for use; the adjacent stairs will still be open for daily Mass. The windows of the Marian Chapel (Adoration Chapel) are in the process of getting a layer of new protective glass. The slate to repair about 15% or so of the church roof should be arriving in early November, pending timely delivery of supplies. Although work is going on now, it is due to your generosity and to the hard work of Msgr. Ferry and Fr. Lynch. For those who are finishing up payment on their R+R pledges this year, thank you for your sacrifice.

Our parish maintenance team is continuing to address deferred maintenance on campus and this week has been repainting the rectory basement hallway and garage, while addressing work in the House of Prayer. Since the beginning of the summer, along with our cleaning teams, they have been doing repair work in each rectory suite (3 suites for your parish priests, 1 suite for our seminarian, and a single room with a bathroom for a guest), a deep cleaning of the rooms' carpeting, curtains and furniture, and the installation of new blinds or shades where needed. Furniture has been ordered for the front parlor of the rectory and one of the suites, but as expected, it is scheduled to arrive months from now. At the end of last year's winter season, the boiler in the school broke down. After a number of proposals for both total replacement or just for repairs, I decided on the boiler's substantial repair to service the needs of the School, Religious Education Program, Parish and CYO Basketball Program as we enter the colder weather and expect that it will be reliable for at least the next three years. This extensive repair should be completed today. We have been blessed at IHM with a tremendous patrimony from past generations. Therefore, all of the maintenance work, repairs and cleaning is geared toward the upkeep of the parish campus for maximum use now and to be able to pass IHM along to future generations in excellent condition.

"Son of David, have pity on me!" the blind Bartimeus calls out in our Gospel this weekend. Jesus summons Bartimeus, inviting him to rebirth and transformation. "Throwing off his cloak" is the symbol of throwing off his old life and his old desires. Jesus never compels but asks, "What do you want me to do for you?" The man wants to see. Jesus heals him, physically, but also at the level of his soul, and sends him forth into the world.
Jesus fulfills the Old Testament promise of Jeremiah that the exiles and remnant will be gathered back together; the lame will walk and the blind will see! Any first-century Jew would not have missed what Jesus was doing. But beyond being a political messiah, Jesus is after healing the world down to the root of sin, if only we give ourselves over to his saving power.

MASS SEATING
1. Striving to best accommodate all seating preferences at our Masses: the School side of the church has no seating restrictions on distance and masks are optional, most of the Carman Road side offers social distancing and we ask all to wear masks on that side of church, and the Adoration Chapel offers an environment for those who are uncomfortable being in the main body of the church with unmasked individuals, therefore social distance and required masks are in order.
2. During the School Year until the Sunday before Memorial Day 2022, the Sunday Mass schedule is as follows: 7:30 AM (no music), 9:00 AM (Family Mass), 10:30 AM (Adult Choir Mass) and 12:00 noon.

"Become a Knight Before Christmas" &
Leave No Neighbor Behind
The Knights of Columbus invites all Catholic men, ages 18 and older, to join the John A. Keogh Council 2108.
In 1882, Blessed Fr. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus to be a pillar of strength to poor Catholic families. Here are some recent examples of local Knights carrying out Fr. McGivney’s vision of charity and unity right here in Westchester County in response to Hurricane Ida,
- “Boots-on-the-ground” volunteer teams to provide food, clothes and gift cards to local families displaced by flooding.
- Truckloads of food and clothing donations from all over New York State to emergency distribution centers at local churches.
- Generous financial contributions to help rebuild homes damaged by flooding.
Catholic men ages 18+ are urged to consider becoming Knights to similarly help their parishes and communities, as well as to protect their families via the top-rated Knights of Columbus fraternal benefits program.

Knights of Columbus Raffle This Weekend
The Rev. John A. Keogh Council: C&B is the Charitable & Benevolent Raffle program the Knights of Columbus runs each year. It is their main fundraiser and they use those funds to help those suffering from floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
C&B raffles will be available after all Masses on October 23-24.

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY THANK YOU
Thank you to those who joined in the IHM Church North Parking Lot on Saturday, October 16th. We prayed Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoked her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world. This Rally was one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that took place all over the United States.

The Eastchester Rotary Interact Club is collecting items for Midnight Run, helping the homeless in NYC. If you would like to contribute any items, please drop them off on:

Memorial Masses
For Those Who Have Lost A Child
A Memorial Mass for any person who is grieving the loss of a child will be conducted on Friday, November 5th at 7:30PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. The Mass is for parents, grandparents, family members and friends of those who have lost a child. Through prayer and community support we seek God’s healing embrace to relieve the burden of grief for those who are suffering.
For Recently Deceased Parishioners
Parishioners who have died since last November 2020 will be remembered at the Saturday, November 6th 8:30AM Mass. All are encouraged to attend this Mass in prayerful support of our bereaved families.
OPERATION CORNERSTONE
Operation Cornerstone was started over 15 years ago by a group of IHM mothers who had children in the military who were deployed in War Zones at Christmastime. We will continue this tradition in November, and we are asking parishioners of IHM to collect donations of toiletries, games, food, etc. Volunteers will then pack and mail the packages to our troops overseas. Monetary donations are always appreciated to help defray the cost of postage. Any monetary donations can be left at the rectory. Additionally, we send letters of support thanking service members for their bravery and sacrifices. They especially enjoy cards from children and often write back to them.
Donation boxes will be placed in the back of the church, side entrances to the church and in the school auditorium. A suggested list of donations are:
- Food: Granola bars, cereal, beef jerky, tuna fish, canned chicken/spam, peanut butter, jelly (no glass jars), nutella, store bought cookies, nuts, trail mix, dried fruit, powder gatorade, Kool Aid Singles
- Toiletries: Travel sized shampoo, body wash, hand sanitizer, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, dental floss, lip balm, cough drops, Tums, Rolaids
- Miscellaneous: Playing Cards, travel games, stress balls, crossword puzzles, word search, Sudoku.

Catholic Underground is a cultural apostolate of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. It is a direct response to a call that began with Pope John Paul II. JPII said that because the Gospel lives in conversation with culture, we must be fearless in crossing the cultural threshold of the communication and information revolution now taking place. The first part of the evening is Eucharistic adoration, and begins with Vespers (Evening Prayer). This is the universal prayer of the Church - prayed by the Catholics throughout the world in every time zone and in every language. After Vespers, there is a time of simple praise. This provides a window for each person to personally encounter Jesus Christ. The beauty of the darkened Church illumined by candles helps us enter the mystery of our Lord's presence in the Eucharist. The holy hour ends with solemn Benediction. The second part showcases Catholic artists. Here we experience the “new evangelization”. The Underground includes music, poetry, visual art, dancers, film, drama, etc. We end our evening as we began, with the prayer of the Church. Compline (Night Prayer) is simple and beautiful. It concludes with a hymn to Our Lady, Daughter Zion, Mother of the New Jerusalem.
