I Am the Bread of Life
My dear friends,
Today, Saturday, July 31st is the Feastday of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. In addition to founding the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) during the Catholic Reformation of the 1500's, he is also known for his profound and inspired insights into the Spiritual Life, leading us to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to know the particular good that God wishes of us in all moments and even in life in general. With this insight, one can trust the Spirit of Jesus Christ ever more and strive to reject the spirit against Christ (traditionally called the world, the flesh and the devil) that seeks to knock us off the path to eternal life.
I am slightly biased in my devotion to St. Ignatius of Loyola, after only 11 years of Jesuit education! Among the things I have always appreciated from the good formation is the following:
- AMDG (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam), meaning to do all 'For the Greater Glory of God'
- To be Men and Women for Others
- 3 powerful questions: What I have done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What will I do for Christ?
Thank you for your prayers and patience. This week the Vicar General's Office of the Archdiocese informed us that our parish's request for authorization for Phase I of the Renew & Rebuild Campaign can proceed. This upcoming week we expect to meet with all parties involved to determine scheduling. I expect more information to report next week.

The Bread of Life
"Man at the bread of angels, food he sent them in abundance" - Psalm 78
The Israelites were fed in the desert by the bread from heaven, and Jesus declares himself to be the new Bread of Life: "whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." (John 6:35).
Do you hunger for God? It's so easy to fill up our days with stress, busy work, and entertainment, that we ignore the deeper hunger we all have for something more. Christ wants to fill us with his very Body in the Eucharist and provide for us, through the Church, the only place where our hunger can be satisfied.

MASS SEATING, BAPTISMS & ADORATION UPDATES
1. Striving to best accommodate all seating preferences at our Masses: the School side of the church has no seating restrictions on distance and masks are optional, most of the Carman Road side offers social distancing and we ask all to wear masks on that side of church, and the Adoration Chapel offers an environment for those who are uncomfortable being in the main body of the church with unmasked individuals, therefore social distance and required masks are in order. Thank you for your understanding.
2. We will continue to have Sunday Mass at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon. Starting September 12, 2021, until the Sunday before Memorial Day 2022, we plan on the Sunday Mass schedule being: 7:30 AM (no music), 9:00 AM (Family Mass), 10:30 AM (Adult Choir Mass) and 12:00 noon.
3. Requests for Baptisms are being accepted for September and beyond, to be held on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 1:30PM. Up to four families will be accommodated for each scheduled Baptism. Please contact the Rectory for availability and to set up an appointment.
4. Perpetual Adoration is scheduled to resume on Monday, September 13, 2021. Later this month we will begin the list anew and ask people to sign up as committed weekly adorers of our Lord for an hour of prayer with Him from Monday mornings through Friday evenings. Sign-ups will be online with an option to contact the Rectory directly. Based on the response and commitment, we will offer Adoration during the times that we will have sufficient coverage. Please spread the word!

I write to you to ask for your solicitude as we prepare to collect an offering on Sunday, August 9 for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa.
Africa faces the economic and social hurdles of enormous debt, epidemic, severe poverty, persecution, and political unrest. In spite of these challenges, the Church in Africa has almost tripled in size in the past 30 years. However, it is difficult for the Church there to sustain its growth and maintain essential pastoral outreach. The Fund provides grants to finance pastoral projects including programs, schools, evangelization and education of clergy and lay ministers.

Every few months it seems that a number of you as parishioners are targeted with a scam that purports to come from me your Pastor.
They usually go like this by text or email: there is an urgent message pressuring you to go out immediately and buy gift cards, scratch off the numbers on the back, and then transmit them by email or text back to this person claiming to be me. You are not permitted to call/visit or speak with this person (me).
Such a scam presumes upon the good bonds and relationship that Jesus intends His priests and people to have.
Please do not fall for these scams. Check the e-mail and the text since they would not be from me, but are new accounts created to pretend to be me and even say they are me.

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
Radiating his glory from the top of Mt. Tabor, Jesus revealed to his closest friends that he was not merely a healer or prophet, but the Son of God Himself. Christ's skin and clothes illuminated, as the prophet Daniel had foretold: "The Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was bright as snow...One like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven" (Daniel 7).
Today's feast celebrates this great event in the life of Christ. We are all called to witness this radiant love God has for his people and return "down the mountain" to share this good news! Jesus is Lord!
May we radiate Your love, O Lord!

St. John Vianney
John Vianney (born Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney; 8 May 1786 – 4 August 1859), venerated as Saint John Vianney, was a French Catholic Priest who is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to as the "Curé d'Ars" (i.e. the parish priest of Ars), internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France, because of the radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surroundings. Catholics attribute this to his saintly life, mortification, persevering ministry in the sacrament of confession, and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His feast day is August 4th.
