My dear friends,
It is a blessing that Independence Day falls on a Sunday this year!
What do we celebrate at Mass every Sunday, but the liberation from the oppression of sin and death that Jesus won for us by his Passion, Death and Resurrection. We celebrate how the Holy Spirit grants us a share in that glorious freedom of the sons and daughters of God (cfr. Romans 8:21b) so that by grace we are given the power to avoid evil and to choose what is good, true and beautiful. This is ultimately the ability to love deeply the Holy Trinity and to love appropriately our neighbor made in God's image. What a grace, blessing and guiding light we have in our faith!
What a blessing we also have in living in the United States of America, where from the deepest parts of our history we cherish life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the sacrifices that it took to realize our country. Our Church would call these noble sentiments the common good - the ability to develop our human and spiritual potential.
It is my hope that just as we seek to come to a deeper awareness of our Catholic identity each Sunday at Mass, and from that identity relate to God and others more authentically while having a clearer sense of our mission in life, so too today may we have a deeper appreciation for our identity as Americans, and from this identity may we more authentically enter into our local, State and national communities with a clearer sense of our mission as Catholics blessed to call the USA our earthly home.

Dear Family of the Archdiocese of New York,
May I raise two points with you today?
First, as we approach the Independence Day weekend, allow me to wish all of you an enjoyable Summer. It is my hope that, after the trials and difficulties of these past 16 months, you will have an opportunity for some much-needed rest and relaxation. I am very much looking forward to spending some time with family and friends that I have not seen for more than a year!
Second, let me remind you that there is still a sacred obligation to attend Sunday Mass, even if you are on vacation. Unfortunately, there has been some confusion recently over whether or not a “dispensation” from Sunday Mass has been in effect. Here in the Archdiocese of New York, there has never been a dispensation from Sunday Mass, because no man can “dispense” or set aside a Divine (as opposed to man-made) law. The Third Commandment says, “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day,” and I can no more say that this no longer applies than I can say that we can forget about “Thou shalt not steal” or “Honor thy father and thy mother.” To deliberately miss Mass is a sin.
Of course, the Church has always held that there may be some justifiable reasons why a person can miss Mass, including old age, illness, and infirmity; this is still the case. During this pandemic, public Mass was not being celebrated for several months, and when Mass resumed, there was still a possibility of catching or spreading the coronavirus, and individuals could, after carefully consulting their conscience, decide not to return to Mass right away. However, now that vaccination rates are up, Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, and people are returning to a more normal way of living, this excuse cannot be said to exist any longer. If you’re going to the mall, having dinner out in restaurants, heading to the ballgame, visiting the hairdresser, and the like, then you should also be at Mass!
Please be assured of a remembrance in my Mass and prayers during these Summer months. Might I ask for a remembrance in yours?

"Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you," the author of Ezekiel notes in our first reading this Sunday, and Jesus himself faces obstinancy in his ministry: "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house." (Mark 6:1-6).
Throughout the ages, people have been closed off to hearing from the messengers of God and answering the life-giving call to conversion. Sometimes we're stubborn or would rather do things "our way." Sometimes we're stuck in our sin and don't want to be challenged. Sometimes we just don't care.
God wants better for us. Christ wants to break through to our stony hearts and invite us to new life. Will we let him?

- Reflect on the definition of love: “willing the good of the other.” Think about all your close relationships. Do they reflect the true meaning of love?

MASS ATTENDANCE SAFETY PROTOCOLS
UPDATE TO IHM MASS SIGNUP PROCESS
Following from New York State and Archdiocese of New York directives regarding COVID-19, we will take these further steps at IHM:
1. Registration for Sunday Masses will be discontinued, effective immediately.

2. Seating in church for this weekend:- the School side of the main body of the church will be normal seating (no distance). Wearing masks are now optional in this section.- the Carman Road side of the main body of the church will continue to be for those who prefer to socially distance and wear masks.- the Adoration Chapel will now only be for those who prefer to wear masks and be socially distanced. It is intended for those who may feel uncomfortable in the main body of the church with the above changes.
3. The Sign of Peace will be verbally reintroduced.
4. We are slowly bringing back vaccinated veterans as Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers. Also, our sanitizing schedule will be reevaluated for July and thereafter for the church.
5. We will continue to have Sunday Masses at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon for the summer months.
From September 12, 2021, until the Sunday before Memorial Day 2022, we plan on the Sunday Mass schedule being: 7:30 AM (no music), 9:00 AM (Family Mass), 10:30 AM (Adult Choir Mass) and 12:00 noon.
6. Baptisms will return to more than one family this summer and up to four families this September for the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 1:30PM. Please call the Rectory for availability and to set up an appointment.
7. Perpetual Adoration will resume Monday, September 13, 2021, and our hope will be to have sufficient coverage for Monday mornings through Friday evenings.

On this Independence Day I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my freedom was purchases with a very high price. My freedom cost others their very lives.
Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families.
Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ.

- Sunday, July 4th marks the 93rd year of the Arthur Manor traditional Fourth of July celebration. The Parade begins at 9:15AM on Bell and Sprague Road and proceeds to Davis Park. Join us and help celebrate!
- On Monday, July 5th, Mass will be celebrated at 8:30AM followed by Eucharistic Adoration from 9:00-10:00AM. During that time the Miraculous Medal Novena and the Rosary will be prayed. The usual Monday evening Rosary and Holy Hour will not be held.

2021 PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY - Saturday, July 10
You are invited to the 2021 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, July 10th at 12:00 noon in the IHM Parking lot of IHM Church in Scarsdale This year as we pray Our Lady’s Rosary and other prayers in her honor, we invoke her blessings on marriage and the family and on our country and the world.
This Rally is one of 20,000 rosary rallies, organized by America Needs Fatima, that will take place all over the United States. This is the Saturday closest to July 4th, the founding of America. Please make an effort to attend. The Rosary Rally Captain is Dr. Priscilla Parameswaran - (914) 441-8805. Please bring your lawn chairs and be there on time.
