My dear friends,
A blessed Trinity Sunday and Memorial Day Weekend to you! At the heart of our Memorial Day commemoration is the recognition of the heroic and complete sacrifice of our men and women who have served our country to protect our lives and freedoms. In gratitude, may we pray for their peaceful repose. May we be worthy of their selfless sacrifices by striving to renew our society and culture by respecting human dignity, striving for the common good and development of all people's human and spiritual dimensions, and with a sense of solidarity to all in our country and in the world.
On Memorial Day we honor and mourn the heroic self-sacrifice of our fallen service members. As Catholics and Christians we believe their acts of 'giving it all' is a powerful image of the ultimate sacrificial love of God that comes from the depths of the Holy Trinity. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. What Jesus did joyfully for our salvation on the Cross is to essentially reveal the dynamic hidden life of the Holy Trinity. Love is a pouring out of oneself for another and then a reception of that love in return. From eternity, the Father pours out his whole being to the Son, who receives it and returns it completely in the gift of the Holy Spirit, the bond of Love between the Father and the Son. Do we not both receive the love of God in Jesus and are also received by Him as His own? The world witnessed this profound Mystery when Jesus gave up His life for love of the Father and for us and our salvation - and we participate in it in EVERY Mass. As Baptized human beings, the inclination to sin has not been abolished and we need a deep divine healing - the grace of God alive in our souls through the Sacraments! Until we come into our eternal reward, we can expect that the practice of true love will have a dimension of suffering and sacrifice, but thankfully with joy. In addition to our fallen heroes, are we not also blessed, inspired and encouraged by the image of God's sacrificial love in the love between a husband and wife, the sacrifices our Mother and Father made for us in our families, in our Church through the lives of consecrated Religious Sisters and Brothers, as well as Priests, and in so many other people living out Jesus' Commandment to love one another as He has loved us? May we remain in Love - in the Eucharist and as a true gift of oneself to others - and, thereby, remain in God's divine love!
I would like to thank the One Community Committee of the Parish Council for the wonderful first event last Sunday - the May Planting and DJ! Thank you for building up the Parish Community and giving us a sense of the different facets of the parish community coming together in an enjoyable and community building afternoon! Thank you!

Let us pray for the new priests for the Archdiocese of New York and for the Friars of the Renewal, who are to be ordained this Saturday morning! May their priestly lives bring blessings, grace and consolations to those they will be sent to minister to!

These films and videos feature Bishop Robert Barron who has been hailed as “one of the Church’s greatest messengers" and is the second most-followed Catholic in the world on social media (behind only Pope Francis.) He is best known for his CATHOLICISM film series and his Emmy-nominated Pivotal Players series, which have both aired on PBS and EWTN, and have been seen by millions of people.

MASS ATTENDANCE SAFETY PROTOCOLS
IHM will provide 3 areas to accommodate various preferences/ requirements.
AREA 1: The Adoration Chapel will be reserved for those not wearing masks. No social distancing will be offered. The stained glass windows will be opened, but the clear glass windows facing the altar will be kept closed (door will be open for Mass so as to facilitate the distribution of Holy Communion.)
AREA 2: The school/parking lot side of the main body of the church will no longer observe social distancing, but masks will be required.
AREA 3: The Carman Road side of the main body of the church will continue as a physical distance section for those wearing masks.
The church will continue to be sanitized between Masses.
Anyone with symptoms of the Virus should absent themselves from in person Mass.
Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, recurring Mass registrations will be suspended and these 3 accommodations will be offered for Mass sign-up as we seek to expand our capacity to receive people back to Sunday Mass, step-by-step

HOLY COMMUNION FOR THOSE
WITH GLUTEN SENSITIVITIES
For any who have sensitivities to Gluten, know that Low Gluten hosts (containing less than 0.002% gluten, <20ppm, fully in accord with Church Canon Law) are available for receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. For those unable to have any gluten, we are happy to offer Holy Communion from a separate Chalice. Please speak with a priest before Mass.

Just as your child begins their educational journey in Kindergarten, IHM invites you to begin their journey in the faith at the same time. Immaculate Heart of Mary Religious Education offers classes to support your home faith learning starting in Kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade.
Our Kindergarten teachers provide a loving and nurturing classroom setting. The Kindergarten curriculum focuses on the basic beliefs of our religion: an introduction to God, the Church, Jesus and what it means to be a part of God’s family. They will also learn prayers and respect for life and each other. For more details click here.

IHM’S ANNUAL BABY BOTTLE COLLECTION
FOR EXPECTANT MOTHER CARE
Each year this simple collection raises thousands of dollars for Moms and children – with all profits going to support Expectant Mother Care (EMC) in its mission to help mothers and families in crisis pregnancies. Funds support mobile units, free ultrasounds and testing, pregnancy assistance, residences for Mothers, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support for families. Please pick up an empty baby bottle from IHM Church, and fill it with change, checks, prayers and love! On Fathers' Day you may return the bottle filled with donations for EMC. Please make out your checks to Expectant Mother Care.

- The College Evenings: IHM is looking forward to the return of so many college parishioners finishing up the Spring Semester on campus! We are planning an in-person meeting after exams finish. - The Centering Prayer Group meets every Wednesday in the Church from 1-2pm.
- The IHM High School of Religion (HSOR) is a vibrant faith and learning community for students in grades 9-12. HSOR meets every Wednesday night at IHM Church from 7:30-8:30PM for the weekly activity and refreshments. June 9th will be the last meeting before resuming in the Fall. GOLDEN JUBILEE WEDDING MASS
AT ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL
The Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 6, at 2:30PM. The Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan. Reservations are closed at this time. All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate.
To those who have already registered for the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass:
- Seating in the cathedral is limited.
- Pews will be reserved for golden jubilee couples only.
- Up to two (2) additional family and friends will be accommodated in pews outside of the reserved section in general seating.
- Couples will be notified if the seating capacity changes and more tickets become available.

Before 2010, I had never heard of Eucharistic adoration. Where did it come from, and what is its purpose?
Unlike all the other sacraments, the Eucharist is “permanent”: When the Mass is offered, our Lord is present in the Holy Sacrament, and His Presence can be kept after the Mass.
As early as the second century AD, the liturgical practice of keeping the Eucharist reserved in the church so that it could be brought to the sick and dying was already in place. Over the centuries, people began to pray before and adore Christ in the reserved Blessed Sacrament – an organic expression of the faithful’s piety. We have journals from monks in the ancient Church that speak of praying before our Lord’s reserved presence in their chapels
Of course, this early practice was not adoration as we envision it today. The monstrance, a sacred device used to expose the Eucharist, was not introduced until around the 13th century. It was used in processions on the great feast of Corpus Christi. By the 17th century, the liturgical practice of benediction of the Blessed Sacrament during Sunday’s Evening Prayer developed. The faithful would be blessed by the Lord in the Holy Eucharist. It was not until 1973 that Eucharistic adoration became an official liturgical rite, with its own official instruction and authoritative guidelines from the Congregation of Divine Worship.

VIRTUAL MEN'S RETREAT
The next Virtual Men's Retreat will take place on Saturday, June 12 from 9AM-12:30PM over Zoom entitled: "St. Joseph, Man for Our Times." It is sponsored by the Holy Name Societies of IHM and Annunciation - OLF Parishes. Deacon John Catalano and William Winnis will provide insightful presentations on St. Joseph's role and relevance for men today. All men younger and more mature are welcome! Cardinal Dolan ordained 10 men to the priesthood (picture below)– six for the Archdiocese of New York and four for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal on Saturday, May 29, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Eight of the new priests completed their formation for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary. Congratulations and prayerful best wishes to all!
