My dear friends,
The Church in New York celebrates the Solemnity of the Ascension 40 days after the Resurrection (this past Thursday), giving us 9 full days to offer a Novena of Prayers to the Lord Jesus to send down His Holy Spirit anew as we will celebrate on Pentecost (Sunday, May 22/23 - by the way, please wear red to Pentecost Mass on the 22nd and 23rd as it is the birthday of the Church!).
Let's pray daily for a deeper share in this Gift of God for ourselves, our families and our parish:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
We are excited to debut this month our online registration for Religious Education for the 2021-2022 school year! We hope this will be a more efficient way to do things, assist with keeping our records up-to-date while avoiding redundancies on your part and ours, and enable us to engage the technological present with confidence! Please see below for further information. Thank you very much to Rita McCabe who is making it happen in conjunction with the Religious Education Office.
Thank you for your wonderful generosity to India, as well as to the Cardinal's Annual Stewardship Appeal (we are at 87% of goal) and to our Easter Collection.
Join me in helping to support an Eagle Scout Candidate and IHM Parishioner, Andrew Mannion, as he leads a Food Drive to benefit HOPE Soup Kitchen and to replenish and renew our IHM Food Pantry. The sharp looking red containers, which Andrew made and set up at each door of the main church, is where you may place your food donations. Thank you Andrew!
As we hear positive news about the lifting of certain restrictions in this pandemic, please know that the Center for Disease Control recommendations need to be filtered through the New York State Health Department for their guidelines and then onto Westchester County's Health Department. Only after all of that will the Archdiocese of New York evaluate such updated guidelines before we see any potential changes at Mass. Your patience and diligence, in the meantime, is greatly appreciated.
I was very sorry to hear that some Sunday regulars were shut-out from registering for Mass on Mothers' Day. While it was good that families brought more numbers, and we certainly would like to welcome everyone back to Sunday Mass, we really need to see social distance in church go safely to 3' or less in order to accommodate a substantially greater number of parishioners for Mass. Until then, we are in a holding pattern as we have been since Christmas.
Midnight Run this eve, Baby Bottle Collection ongoing, Women's Formation Group having an engaging time unpacking the Church's Social Doctrine, and the penultimate meeting of the Parish Council this Monday evening! I cannot wait or imagine what it will be like when the Parish gets back to 100% activity and prayer!
If you see Fr. Rafferty this Sunday - wish him a Happy Birthday!
A blessed Sunday in this month of Our Lady!
