Happy Saint Valentine's Day to all! I am scheduled to get my first shot of the vaccine this Sunday afternoon at Westchester County Center.
Today, the Church in the Archdiocese of New York takes up a yearly collection for the Universal Pastoral Ministry of our Holy Father Pope Francis, called the Peter's Pence Collection. As with our Annual Cardinal's Stewardship Appeal, it is an opportunity to fulfil our responsibility that flows from our union and communion in the Faith as Catholics. I can personally witness to the needs of these collections and to the fruits of your generosity:

When I served in the Congregation for Bishops in Rome (2015-2020), Peter's Pence supports that and all the other offices assisting the Holy Father with his Pastoral outreach and oversight of the entire Church, his Proclamation of the Faith and his Charitable outreach to so many. I experienced so many lay women and men, consecrated members of the Church, priests, Bishops and Cardinals working and pouring themselves out for the good of the Universal Church. The numbers staffing these various offices are very few considering the more-than a billion Catholics worldwide.
When I was the Vocation Director for the Archdiocese and worked in Seminary Formation (2006-2015), your generosity supported our retreats, outreach to young adults and students, the education and formation of future priests, resources for discernment and our-then ad campaign - NYPriest.com The World Needs Heroes.
May I just highlight some reminders in the Mass sign-up section for us to review, as we redouble our efforts to keep everyone safe.
As we did before Christmas, soon everyone should be receiving a Lenten postcard inviting all to enter into our Lenten journey to prepare for Easter! May the image of our beautiful stained-glass window be an opportunity for prayer, reflection and awareness of Jesus' love for us. In addition to our offered opportunities on the card, Fr. Gerard Rafferty will offer a spiritual presentation during Lent on Monday, March 8th at the 8:00 PM Holy Hour. More information will follow.

MASS ATTENDANCE SAFETY PROTOCOLS
As we seek to renew our practices to keep everyone safe, please remember to disinfect when you enter the church and wear masks properly covering your mouth and nose, particularly if you should cough or sneeze. Always feel free to excuse yourself if you need to or if you feel unsafe. Please follow the directions of the ushers since we seek to put groups of 1, 2 or 3 at opposite ends of the same pews alternating with a pew for families of 4, 5 and 6 in the middle of pews. Families of 7, 8, 9 and 10 will normally be situated on the sides of the front of the church or in the Adoration Chapel. We encourage everyone to arrive 5-10 minutes before Mass so as to assist in smoothly seating all. Should one arrive after Mass begins, please enter through the main vestibule area of the church (unless handicap entrance is needed). After Mass, to avoid congregating, please exit by the closest door. Thank you for your attention to these reminders and to your understanding.
Please Note: Ash Wednesday is on February 17. Ashes will be distributed at the 6:45am, 9:00AM, & 7:00PM Masses and at the 3:30PM prayer service. Pre-Registration is required. Use the signup below.
Due to the pandemic, the formula of imposing Blessed Ashes will only be prayed one for all. Then you will have the option to receive Ashes as is customary in the United States (on the forehead) as priests will disinfect after each distribution, or sprinkled on top of your head, as is customary in many countries, such as Italy. Please indicate which you prefer when you come forward.

LENT: Prayer – Fasting – Almsgiving
to prepare for Easter
1. Prayerful Devotions in Lent:
- Sacrament of Reconciliation: Mondays 8:00-8:45pm, Saturdays after the 8:30am Mass and from 4:00-5:00pm and by appointment
- Stations of the Cross: Fridays of Lent at 7:15pm
- Adoration: Mondays 8:00-9:00pm and Fridays 9:30-10:30am
- Holy Mass: Sundays: 8:00am, 10:00am & 12noon and Saturday Vigil at 5:30pm, Daily Monday-Friday 6:45am and 9:00am, Saturdays and holidays 8:30am. Kindly pre-register.
- Easter Duty: The time for fulfilling Confession & Receiving Holy Communion extends from February 21 - First Sunday of Lent, to May 30 - Holy Trinity Sunday
2. Lenten Fast and Abstinence:
- During the Season of Lent, the Church urges all the Faithful to reflect a spirit in penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence
- Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17
- ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of Fast and Abstinence
- FASTING means that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Snacking between meals is not permitted. Catholics ages 18-59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
- ABSTINENCE forbids the eating meat or poultry. Those who have reached the age of 14 or older are obliged to abstain on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday.
- All Fridays of the year are designated as days of penance during which we are encouraged to practice self-denial out of gratitude for the suffering and death Jesus accepted for us.
3. Almsgiving: HOPE COMMUNITY SOUP KITCHEN NEEDS YOUR HELP
- We are looking for more volunteers to cook for the HOPE Community Supper Program. The need is greater than ever. Cooking is done at home and delivered to the Church, it is then picked up and delivered to HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle (www.hopecommunityservices.org).
- Timing: Held every third Friday, and also the occasional 5th Tuesday of the month. NEXT HOPE SOUP KITCHEN Drop off: FRIDAY, February 19 by 12noon – if you have perishable food and can bring close to noon, please do so.
- If cooking is "not your thing" we could use help with shopping for other food items

Do you ever wish you could slow down and consider what the meaning of life is and how God fits in? The Adult Faith Formation Office invites you to join us this Lent for Discovering Christ.
Discovering Christ is for anyone who is curious and searching for answers. Each week you will watch a 30 minute video that you can watch at whatever time is convenient for you. Then, you will be part of a small group with others who are also searching for answers to some of life's deepest questions. You are not alone. We will journey together, as a Church. You can choose either an online gathering on Zoom or "in person" at Most Holy Redeemer-Nativity Parish in NYC. We are pleased to offer courses every day of the week.

40 Days for Life is an international Christian not-for-profit organization that organizes campaigns against abortion in more than 60 countries. They are sponsoring a Spring 2021 Campaign with a kickoff Rally on Saturday, February 13 at 2:30pm at the Public right-of-way on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood (175 Tarrytown Road, White Plains, NY 10607.)
